week 1
i was in another class and i changed out to ms wouds class because i work better in her class because i understand her better and do more work. i found it really hard to concentrate on all the new information and confusing. In the new class it was much better as i got lots more help. she explained it all more to me. i started thinking abooout the topics i could do. i started thinking about what i could do about aboriginal youth. this interests me becasue i am nunga and i am involved in the community. i like the idea of giving back to the community.
week 2
i meet with my tutor and we dicussed a topic and decided on a program called AYAC. i am already involved in this so it makes it easier as i havae a little of the information and some of the contacts that will be good primary sources for me. i think that i can i get enough information. the hardest part will be doing the 1500 words at the end i think. started my draft proposal and i didnt really know what i was doing but then i got 3 examples of how to write them and that made it much easier. i had to think about which capaability i would choose. i thought about citizenship or communication. i chose citizenship becasue its more that than anything else. i managed to get my proposal finished with my tutor's help and that felt good becasue at least i know i am getting my work done properly. most of the class have not got that far so i feel like i am ahead. i think i am using my time well but its lucky i have only got two subjects. i am staying at school when i dont need to be here so that means i am really committed.
week 3
today that i worked out that we had to do all these journals and i didnt know what to do so i asked ms mudock for help about what to do. i have to catch up a few weeks but i have pleney of spare time today as i only have two lessons. this week i also got my draft back from ms wowd this week and i fixed it up and handed it up. i still feel like i am way ahead. now i can get on with my research. i have already printed off some information from the AYAC page on the internet. I read it and the information was very helpful to my study. it gave me a good overview of the program, what it is about, what it does and what it is directed at. I think the author would be the Youth Worker at Kura Yerlo whose name is Kevin so the information is first hand, a primary source. week 4
I continued with some research early in the week. On wednesday i did a mind map using inspirations. That was helpful because it gave me questions to ask and will make my job easier to work out questions for the survey and will give me a strong focus. i have put the mind map into WIKI Space as well as my proposal document. I just found out that the timeframe that we have is only enough time for me to attend two ayac meetings so that means that i wont have heaps of meeting notes but i will ask for past meeting notes. this limits my time with the kids, parents and youth workerss too but i know how to pursue them and get the information that i need.
Hi Niven, You have made a great start to your project. Your topic of AYAC is very interesting and I look forward to seeing you develop it. Good luck and let me know where I can help you out. Cheers Caroline Woud 27/2/2011 week 5
this week i will have to work hard in collecting my primary information for the AYAC committee members, youth workers and parents.I need to get this done now as i have Doorways Plus from week 9 to week 11. Also there is only 2 AYAC mettings i can attend during the time frame which i have. so considering this i have created my 3 survey which are directed at the youth, elders, parents and youth workers. to find out how all different age groups see the impact of the program.
i attended the second AYAC meeting and took the role as the chairperson for the day
attended by all committe members, youth worker kevin and volounter lisa
we decided to sell chocolates, cupcakes and pancakes to raise money for AYAC
i will need to make up dates when we are going to sell the food
talked about when we have nunga nites we are going to need more volounters
when i attended the meeting i just could see that AYAC is going to help lots of kids
i got a copy of the february minutes. i might be able to use them but i have to try to get copies of some more of the previous minutes.
week 7
my time frame has become shorter because i have been accepted to do doorways plus it takes up the last three weeks so i have started to attempt my draft.i needed more staticts so i went on the ABS site and got some more info and read through that and located what i could use and found more useful info. i know i will have to go a little bit backwards now because i have started writing up my draft and i havent dot pointed the articles for my folio, but i have read them and highlighted them so that i can find the best information for my draft. i just realised that i cant go to the next AYAC meeting as it is on when i have doorways plus so that takes away some of my information and the chance to interview some more people. i think its important to interview elders so we get the perspective of the older wiser aboriginal communitty
week 8
i have started my 1500 word draft and i think i am going good i have got more then halfway and it is going well but there is a couple things i need to do to finish it off i need to revolve heaps around my focous questions and i need write in real good detail so i can make up all the words. i think i am going to make the dead line. which is good because i really only have this week to finish my draft. i thought 1500 word was going to be way too much to write but i can see now that i will have to be careful with words instead. i asked ms woud about cutting down the word count by using some dot points and i thnk i can dot point the abs information in the issues of aboriginal youth part of the draft. i thought the stats i seen on the aborginal youth was very poor. but i think AYAC and other progarms like AYAC will help us overcome these stats in the time to come.
summary of interview with youth worker kevin colman conducted Mon 7 March
works at Kura Yelo and this is part of his job
employed as aboriginal engagement manager for 3 years
ayac makes him aware of problems faced by aboriginal community.
he loves the kids from all backgrounds
positives are confidence and getting to know community and families
says AYAC works - evidence is number of kids who want to be involved.
can be improved by getting more parents involved
huge future for AYAC
Week 9 10 11
i could not attend school for these weeks as I am enrolled in Doorways Plus, a Cert 3 training through ATEC. This is important to me as I want to have a trade career. However it means that i need to be away from school in some blocks. I dont feel threatened by this as I feel like I am well organised have competed my research and conducted my surveys. I have already started the 1500 word outcome.
TERM 2
Week 1
When I came back to school I found out that my outcome did not have to be 1500 written words. That is good news for me because I am bright enough but I have trouble putting pen to paper. I have problems especially with hand writing which means I have been given a laptop to help me with my school work. There was an AYAC meeting on my first day back and I decided to take picture and record the meeting. I have decided to change my presentation to a Powerpoint because I am more much more comfortable with the powerpoint software or using technology full stop so I will transfer my info from my 1500 word draft to a powerpoint. A powerpoint will be good because it will give three different view - pictures, video and written. It covers all peoples learning types.
Week 2
Ms Woud wanted to see drafts last week but I was away for a funeral last week and I was unwell for most of the week. This week I will need to show her my draft. I have already done about 8 slides. I have just decided to put some traditional music onto the presentation. My brother lives on the lands and I have his ipod with a great selection of music on it. My goal for the week is to complete the powerpoint and hand it up as a draft and hopefully get it back so that i can complete it next week.
